Experience Bavaria the way the Kings experienced Bavaria!

No trip to Bavaria is complete without experiencing the inspiration for the Disney Castle! Imagine seeing that magical castle, suddenly on the horizon, as we take a turn off a beautiful Bavarian mountain road. This memory is one of the first that immediately comes to mind when someone asks me “what was your first huge “wow” when you came to Germany?” I will share my personal knowledge of the area to customize the day around your own desires. And offer some special local gems that not many tourists ordinarily get to see.

On our way to the castle, we can delve into the history of Germany, Bavaria, the Royal family, and King Ludwig II. His story is a real-life mystery, and kids, as well as adults, find it fascinating, just as I do. I will always have an abundance of stories to share as we experience the German “Autobahn” and travel through some quaint Bavarian villages to reach the castle itself! This is a memory of a lifetime, and I will be happy to help make it yours.

You will be picked up at your Munich city center hotel, and we will make our way to the castle. We will have a number of possibilities for lunch as well as the afternoon. We can visit the Linderhof Palace, where King Ludwig II lived the last 8 years of his tragically short life. We can visit the medieval town of Füssen, which is the beginning (or end) of the Romantic Road. Or perhaps the charming village of Oberammergau, famous for, among other things, the Passion Play, which dates back to 1633. But there are many possibilities, and most of them can be decided spontaneously on the day. All of my tours are flexible, so I will always have suggestions, but you can also have the day customized to your personal tastes and interests.

The day will begin at 8 due to the ticket situation at the castle. I will secure the tickets ahead of time and I often do not have a lot of flexibility as o which tour time I can get, so leaving at 8 is often the best option to have a relaxed journey. If you would prefer another time, please message me for details. The day will last 9 1/2 to 10 hours. Traffic can affect the tour duration.

There are 3 ways to reach the castle itself. We can walk, there is a horse and carriage and there is a bus. The bus or walking are my favorite options. We need the mountain path, or the bus, to reach Marys Bridge, built by Ludwig’s father and remodeled by Ludwig himself out of iron. The walk is 30 minutes (or more, depending) up a mountain path for hikers, and the bus runs regularly in the spring to fall. In the winter it can be hit or miss with the bus.

IMPORTANT: Some walking will always be involved. Regardless of bus or horse and carriage, the last part of the journey, around 500 yards, must be done by foot. There is sadly no other way. In severe weather, the buses do not run, especially in the winter. The horse and carriage can also stop due to weather, although this is rarely the case.

Many of the things we will be able to see and do will be often impacted by the time of year and the weather.

We will travel in a 2021 Mercedes van, very comfortable with AC and seats that can be tilted back. If a child’s seat is needed, I can provide a seat for children around 9 months to 6 years. Please let me know in advance as the seat is not in the van at all times.

I am not allowed to guide in the castles. You must always use a castle-appointed guide. I will accompany you when possible, but I am not always able to secure a tour guide ticket, so I may not be able to come inside the castle itself, depending. Message me for more details.
